GG helps launch Buhler Centre, Unveils sculpture at Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art

The striking white building at the corner of Portage Avenue and Colony Street is officially open for business.

More than 100 people gathered for the opening of the Buhler Centre in downtown Winnipeg Thursday afternoon.

It is the new home of the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art. It will also house the University of Winnipeg’s faculty of business and economics, and the continuing education department.

Gov. Gen. gets peek at Buhler site

GOV. Gen. Michaëlle Jean will be on hand today for the first official peek inside the new Buhler Centre.

The building, which is co-owned and will be co-occupied by the University of Winnipeg and the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art, takes up one of the key vantage points in the city across the road from the Hudson’s Bay Co. store and kitty-corner to the iconic Winnipeg Art Gallery.

Buhler Centre opens on U of W campus

The newest addition to the University of Winnipeg campus officially opens its doors on Thursday.

Located on at the corner of Portage Avenue and Colony Street, the site was previously occupied by the United Army Surplus store.

The Buhler Centre will house the Faculty of Business and Economics, along with the Continuing Education department.

The Buhler Centre will also serve as the new home of the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art Gallery.

Gov-Gen Michaëlle Jean making two-day visit to city next week

WINNIPEG—Gov.-Gen. Michaëlle Jean will pay tribute to Point Douglas residents for driving down crime rates, visit the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s studios and attend the inauguration of the new home for the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art during a two-day trip to Winnipeg next week.

Jean’s office released her itinerary for a four-day Prairie tour this morning. In addition to her Winnipeg stop, she will travel to Regina, Saskatoon and La Ronge, Sask.

Plug In ICA and University of Winnipeg break ground at new site

Downtown Winnipeg is gaining another environmentally friendly Silver LEED building at the key corner of Portage Avenue and Memorial as a result of a partnership between Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art and The University of Winnipeg. Activities inside the new, three-story building will enhance and build on downtown’s thriving arts and business hub.
