A Note from the Bookshop:
Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art’s Bookshop brought several projects to fruition in 2018. Significantly we organized and hosted the first Prairie Art Book Fair in September, launched three unique publications (launching two new series), brought Plug In Editions and local publications to the New York Art Book Fair, organized book signings and increased our selection of titles in the shop. We strengthened bonds with other organizations, added to our curated library collection and continue to expand our program with publications related to our exhibitions.

Skeena Reece: Entitled
The embodiment of a typical native-ness is transformed into caricature in Entitled, 2017, a painting for which Reece commissioned the west coast painter and illustrator Collin Elder to portray her as cliche. She further propagates this prolific image as she turns it into a mass-produced poster available for purchase in the gallery’s shop.

Prairie Art Book Fair:
The inaugural Prairie Art Book Fair was presented by Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art in our gallery spaces from September 7-9, 2018. Dedicated to exhibiting the diverse and accomplished work of Prairie-based art publishers and booksellers and strengthening the local community of art book publishers, Plug In ICA set this initiative in motion as a means to acknowledge the critical relationship between contemporary art and publishing with a regional focus on the Prairies. Free and open to the public, the weekend included book launches, readings, collaborative art projects, talks and showcased publications from 30 publishers, artists and galleries ranging from catalogues, artist editions, fiction, poetry, criticism and periodicals.
Plug In ICA extends our gratitude to all the exhibitors who joined us for the inaugural Prairie Art Book Fair. We are pleased to acknowledge the generous support of Paula Mitchell and Arnold Leventhal for this book fair. Thank You!
