GroundSwell and Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art present Sound Matters, a performance-installation event featuring the extraordinary work of experimental composer, performer and instrument inventor Jean-François Laporte. Founder and artistic director of the illustrious Productions Totem Contemporain, Laporte is currently in great demand, with invitations to present his unique sonic installations worldwide. Sound Matters will feature works for traditional, modified and invented instruments, including Laporte’s renowned electroacoustic instrument, the Tu-Yo. Laporte will be joined by violinist Oleg Pokhanovski and live electronics artist Gordon Fitzell.
Jean-François Laporte will be active in the city throughout the week, leading a masterclass and instrument demo session at the University of Manitoba, speaking at the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface, and sitting in with the eXperimental Improv Ensemble (XIE).
Laporte’s work will be featured at Plug In ICA from March 9th to 13th.
