Artist and Curator Talk | Michael Dumontier and Micah Lexier

January 28, 2012 – 3pm to 4pm

On Saturday, January 28, 2012, join artist Michael Dumontier and curator Micah Lexier in the gallery as they speak about A Moon or a Button and the inter-related Like Minded Group Show.  Dumontier will use slides to speak about friends, collaboration, children’s art, collecting, early work, folk art, translation, children’s books, blogs, music, 1970’s crafts, and a number of artists who have influenced Dumontier or have been on his mind recently.

Michael Dumontier’s inventive, reductive works are at once sculpture, painting, collage, and drawing.  Being unconcerned with these definitions, Dumontier makes objects that are the outcome of a playful series of improvisations with simple materials. Lines, rarely drawn or painted, are made with rough cuts of a saw blade, string, carefully extracted childrens’ drawings, or thin slivers of negative space.

Micah Lexier is an artist, a collector and a curator. He was born in Winnipeg, studied in Halifax and lived in Toronto and New York City. He has a deep interest in measurement, numbers and the kinds of casual marks we make in our day-to-day lives. He has had over 90 solo exhibitions, participated in over 150 group exhibitions, produced a dozen permanent public commissions, and curated 10 exhibitions.

This event is free for all and all are welcome.
