SNaiLPoiSoN performance by Crabskull

March 3, 2016 – 7pm to 9pm

Plug In ICA is pleased to present SNaiLPoiSoN, an audio performance by Winnipeg musician Crabskull, in conjunction with Aston Coles and Irene Bindi’s sound and video installation, Moon Rehearsal Tape.

Chrys Fournier, aka Crabskull, known to many within Winnipeg’s underground music scenes, has been steadily working within and pulling together multiple music genres for years. With a persistent and intense curiosity, he has created work that encompasses hip-hop, dub mix tapes, metal, and dark techno.  His ongoing drive to combine these diverse elements is part of what led Coles and Bindi to invite him to participate in Moon Rehearsal Tape. In addition, a decade-old conversation between Fournier and Coles formed part of the inspiration for Coles’ handbuilt sound-system. Cyclically, for “SNaiLPoiSoN”, Crabskull will now perform by working through Coles’ system to present a set of sludgy techno/electro that features wide open synths, live loops, drum machine, and sampler mixed in a dub style, creating an entangled and massive sound.

This unique performance is part of a series of programs related to Moon Rehearsal Tape, which constitutes a broad-ranging, multidisciplinary investigation of audio space. Here the gallery becomes a site in which practices and materials are worked through, analyzed, examined, displaced, transcribed, reformed, remediated, and reedited.
