Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is thrilled to present:
Prairie Art Book Fair 2024
September 13 – 15, 2024
We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of this year’s edition of Plug In ICA’s Prairie Art Book Fair. This will be the fourth iteration of the bi-annual event. Over seventeen vendors will gather for three days in our galleries to share an array of printed matter and other publication ephemera. The vendors include independent artists, art collectives, artist-run organizations and publishers from across the prairies and beyond. Alongside the fair, we will conduct a string of associated programming activities including a zine workshop, public readings and a panel discussion. Please join us for a rooftop opening reception party on September 13 from 7 – 10 PM.
A complete list of exhibitors and events are listed below.
Stay tuned for updates about the programming that we will be offering during the fair.

Gravitron Reader-In-Residence with Shalaka Jadhav
The Gravitron Reader-In-Residence program has been launched in response to the death of spaces in so-called Canada that promote and disseminate artists working with publications and writing. This meandering initiative will focus on promoting writing and reading in the visual arts outside major urban centres. The reader-in-residence is invited to engage with the Gravitron collection by reading and responding to the material they find. Shalaka Jadhav will be the RIR for the 2024 Prairie Art Book Fair and will join Nic Wilson for a conversation and presentation developed over the course of the residency.

Recipes for Resistance: A Food Zine Workshop with Christina Hajjar
Zines are self-published booklets suitable for food narratives expressed through memoir, poetry, collage, comics, short stories, recipes, and more. Facilitator Christina Hajjar will present on food zines, exploring their varied aesthetics and political contexts. There will be some low pressure group activities and plenty of time to explore zines, eat, and get started on your own project! In addition to drawing from some Palestinian examples, we’ll also write postcards in support of Palestine. This session is part lecture, part hands-on, with open time to read, mingle, and reflect on the themes of diaspora, food justice, and the role of print media.
No previous experience necessary. Materials and snacks will be provided. Masks are mandatory, but may be removed for eating.
Space is limited, interested participants can email bronwyn@plugin.org with the Subject Line: “zine workshop” to confirm their spot.
