An Artist Talk by Angie Keefer

May 19, 2015 – 7pm to 9pm

Wylie Coyote paints a trompe l’oeil tunnel on a rock wall to trick Road Runner into colliding with the rock-face. In the next frames, Road Runner zips right through, but when Coyote tries to pursue, he hits the wall himself. This scene will be our starting point and set the tone for an extended conversation about representation and elaboration.

Plug In ICA is pleased to present an artist talk with Angie Keefer who will speak on The Serving Library, as well as introduce some recent projects. The Serving Library (TSL), founded with David Reinfurt and Stuart Bailey of Dexter Sinister, is an artist-run non-profit organization dedicated to publishing and archiving in a continuous loop. The Bulletins, their house journal, is now in its 5th year of production. A complete archive can be found online at www.servinglibrary.org. TSL also accumulates and exhibits a growing collection of objects and books related to the journal, which in turn becomes the building material for ongoing conversations and other projects.

Keefer’s presentation at Plug In ICA is part of a process between an artist and an institution that we hope marks the beginning of an extended collaboration. Plug In ICA has framed this talk within the timeline of Yesterday Was Once Tomorrow (A, Brick is a Tool), our current exhibition showcasing Canadian art magazines from the 90s, not in direct response to the exhibition’s content but to extend the conversation into current realities.

Angie Keefer (b. 1977) graduated from Yale University in 1999.

Plug In ICA gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council and Winnipeg Arts Council as well as our generous donors, valued members and dedicated volunteers.
