Artist Talk with Eleanor Bond

July 13, 2015 – 6pm to 7:30pm

Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is honoured to present an artist talk with Eleanor Bond on Monday, July 13 at 6PM. The event is free and all are welcome.

One of Canada’s most distinguished painters, Bond is known for her large-scale depictions of urban, architectonic and post-industrial spaces engaged with speculative realities that address contemporary anxieties of economic and social transition. Bond’s drawings and paintings often depict urban landscapes in which a labyrinth of forms include both the actual and imaginary, speculating on various cities’ continual reconstruction and transformation.

Bond will speak about her earlier work as part of a series discussions related to Plug In ICA’s Summer Institute, our annual post-graduate residency for professional artists. Archival Shadows, this year’s iteration of the Summer Institute, is loosely themed around contingent architecture, one that invites broadened engagement and offers a range of spatial and experiential possibilities. Faculty Nat Chard and Perry Kulper are working across disciplines in both concept and materials to guide an international group of artists in explorations that construct spatial assemblies within considered situational relationships.

Bond’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions internationally and across Canada, including at the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver; Witte de With, Rotterdam; and the Museo de Arte Moderna de Sao Paulo, Brazil. She has participated in numerous international biennals such as the Montreal Biennale; Third International Istanbul Biennial; the Canadian Biennial at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; and the Sao Paulo Biennial. She is Associate Professor in Studio Arts at Concordia University in Montreal.

Plug In ICA gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council and Winnipeg Arts Council as well as our generous donors, dedicated members and valued volunteers.
