Mary-Anne McTrowe, So What.

Artist Talk with Mary-Anne McTrowe

September 9, 2015 – 7pm to 8:30pm

Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art and the Lewyc Institute of Contemporary Art (LICA), Winnipeg are pleased to co-present an artist talk with Mary-Anne McTrowe on Wednesday, September 9 at 7pm at Plug In ICA in conjunction with her upcoming exhibition SO WHAT at LICA.

McTrowe will speak about her work, which makes familiar objects and experiences strange. She often works with textiles and text sometimes only insinuating language, or inversely, making bold blunt statements. At times she uses architectural space to confine her work as a constraint as well as a challenge to overcome, both enhancing the exhibition space and bumping up against it.

McTrowe lives and works in Lethbridge, Alberta where she graduated with her BFA from the University of Lethbridge. She received her MFA in 2001 from Concordia in Montreal. Alongside her studio work, which she has exhibited across Canada, she plays music as part of The Cedar Tavern Singers AKA Les Phonoréalistes with Daniel Wong.

During her stay in Winnipeg she will present SO WHAT, a textile installation comprised of four large, hand-sewn multi-coloured banners at LICA, opening on Saturday, September 12 with a reception from 2 to 5pm. For more information regarding her exhibition please contact theo.sims@gmail.com. LICA is located at 78 Lusted Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
