AT performance at Plug In ICA
September 28, 2013 – 3:30pm to 11:45pm
Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is pleased to present a performance by AT, a multimedia performance group who first came to Plug In ICA as part of the 2013 edition of the Summer Institute. AT is an art and dance music hybrid that acts as a meeting point between the practices of Sophia Erdahl, Ray Fenwick, Mitchell Wiebe, and Aaron Weldon. The band will performing on Saturday, September 28th during a reception on the Plug In ICA rooftop terrace between 3:00 and 5:00 pm., and again between 7pm to midnight in Plug In’s loading dock as part of Nuit Blanche.
Collaboratively, they are using the Dan Graham pavilion on Plug-In ICA’s rooftop as a departure toward a site-specific piece that activates the pavilion as a venue and framework – not as an homage but as a generative spark. The intention is to allow light, video and sound to engage the pavilion’s reflective and porous surfaces—marrying minimalist art with their interpretation of early American minimalist music. Their work exists somewhere between music, monologue, and performance art. Marrying minimalist art with the American minimalist music of the so-called “hypnotic school” is the source and musical aspect in the work. The music takes as its muse the work of early minimalists Terry Riley, Steve Reich and La Monte Young.
