ART!
Join us as we celebrate the summer, DIS’s exhibition, and the culmination of our first Summer Institute session. This Saturday, July 7th at Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art from 7-11pm we are hosting a night of art, music, food and fun in celebration of DIS, Thumbs That Type and Swipe: The DIS Edutainment Network summer exhibition and Summer Institute (session I). DIS’s exhibition will be on view throughout the evening, as well as work in progress by the Summer Institute participants: Chris Andrews, Stephanie Berrington, Ibai Gorriti, Brian Hunter, Instant Coffee (Jinhan Ko and Sunny Lee), Ryan Josey, Jaz Papadopoulos, John Patterson, Shaylyn Plett, Erica Stocking, and Xin Xin. On the rooftop patio there will be music and dancing with DJ’s Slowgrind and Louie Lovebird, cash bar and a BBQ.
The Summer Institute was an exciting immersion into the world of DIS.ART, marked by two intensive weeks with Marco Roso of DIS. From June 25-July 6th, Roso invited eleven professionals including artists and filmmakers, an architect, crypto-currency enthusiast, and an economist. This expanded Speaker Series showcased DIS’s role as a creative collaborator and their new online edutainment platform, DIS.ART as a site for artists and thinkers to question the limits of existing socio-technological structures, while also challenging the boundaries between artistic practice and other disciplines. Over the course of the session, participants considered a series of linked concerns, including: the nature of belonging in a rootless-seeming, networked world; and changing relationships to the way we own, lend or give time through occupations, bodies, or other forms of value-creation.
