Interpreting [Interrupting] Youth | Session Nine | Chen Zhe & Hyphen-Labs

February 5 – 29, 2020

Wednesdays 4:30 – 8:00 pm
Saturdays 12:00 – 4:00 pm

Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art | 1, 460 Portage Ave |
Winnipeg MB | Canada

This session explored Towards Evenings: 891 Dusks, an Encyclopedia of Psychological Experiences by Chen Zhe and NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism by Hyphen-Labs.

The central focus of Interpreting [Interrupting] Youth is to create a platform for participants to be introduced and exposed to contemporary art, artists, curators and art educators while developing skills related to art production, communications, critical thinking and videography. A second function of the program is to highlight the youth’s experience of the artwork, challenging conventional models of art interpretation and criticism.

In collaboration with Just TV, participants worked in groups of 4-6 to produce a short video documenting their experiences and interpretations of the artwork exhibited at Plug In. At the end of the session, there was a screening and panel discussion that was open to the public on March 4 at 5:30 pm.

This video is available in our online video archive.

Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art would like to thank Assiniboine Credit Union, Payworks, and RBC Foundation for the support of these learning programs.
