We celebrated the participants of Session I of our 2019 Summer Institute: Trackings and Trappings with an open studio and roof top party. Plug In ICA hosted a night of art, sound, and performances by Toby Gillies, Serena Lee, benni macdonald, Marijana Mandusic, Megan Moore, Tracy Peters, Davis Plett, Lucas Regazzi, Sabrina Sethi, Nicole Shimonek, Suzie Smith, and Mahri White.
Trackings and Trappings was led by faculty members: Natalie Purschwitz, Anju Singh, and Justine A. Chambers. The program was marked by two intensive weeks that included presentations, public lectures and conversations, performances, outings, movement and somatic exercises, workshops, and studio visits by the respective faculty and by guest speaker Bopha Chhay.
From July 8-19th, participants considered the expanded notions of mapping, encouraging participants to investigate their own practice through the trappings of normalized systems of belief. Participants were invited to reorient their gaze, sensation, and attention to gain understanding of how hard-wired ideological structures influence how we chart our trajectories through lived experience and conditioned environments.
The rooftop patio included food + drink, and featured a playlist put together by Justine A. Chambers’ grandmother, titled Tailfeather.
