💥 Late night! 💥 We are open 12pm - 8pm today! Come visit our galleries to view 'Live Lecture Streaming Podium: I am Not a Cat', a solo exhibition by Judy Radul.

Serving as both a presentation stage and playback system, Radul’s 'Live Lecture Streaming Podium' frames and distorts live lectures to highlight the non-neutrality of technology.

Inspired by online presentations where one encounters sophisticated content altered by its digital format, 'Live Lecture Streaming Podium' references the distinctive quirks that come with using technology for disseminating information. Acting as a functioning stage, this podium also enters chance happenings into the lecture, denaturalizing this knowledge to remind us that not only is the content of these digital presentations subjective, but that their framework contains a subjectivity that inherently remolds the information they convey as well.

Judy Radul’s video installations often feature technical systems, including an original computer-controlled motion choreography and playback system for live and pre-recorded video. Recent exhibitions include: Dazibao, Montreal, 2023; Gwangju Biennale, 2021; Albertinum Museum, Dresden, 2021; Kunstinstitute Melly, Rotterdam, 2017. Her large-scale media installation 'World Rehearsal Court' (2009) has been shown in Vancouver, Vienna, Seoul, Oslo and Moscow. She has published two books with Sternberg Press Berlin: 'A Thousand Eyes: Media Technology, Law and Aesthetics', 2011 co-edited with Marit Paasche, and 'This Is Television', 2018. Radul received a B.A in Fine and Performing Arts, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, 1991 and Master of Visual and Media Arts, Bard College, New York, 2000. She is Professor of Visual Art at SFU School for Contemporary Arts. She lives in Berlin and Vancouver (unceded Tsleil-Waututh, Skwxwú7mesh and Musqueam lands) and is represented by Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver.

☀️ We are excited to announce that we're looking for an Education & Public Programming Intern to join our team this summer! ☀️

The Education and Public Programming Intern will participate in a broad range of activities that include various aspects of running a contemporary art gallery, museum or institute, as well as research, writing and administration.

This is a paid internship opportunity funded in part by Young Canada Works through the Canadian Museums Association. Candidates must be under 30 years old, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and a full-time secondary or post-secondary student intending to return to full-time studies following the completion of the internship.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and letter of interest by 5 pm Central Time on May 10, 2024. 📝

📣 Plug In ICA is excited to announce 'A Place o

📣 Plug In ICA is excited to announce 'A Place of Memory: Contexts of Existence', an exhibition curated by Irene Campolmi that celebrates the centenary of Jean Paul Riopelle’s birth by using his life as a point of departure and reflecting on how context informs the work of contemporary artists, particularly female and non-binary artists today.

Please join us for an opening reception May 10 from 6 - 9pm

A context is both a physical, geographically located place and a series of emotional, social, and political events that occur at a specific moment in time. It is a spatial and temporal coordinate in the collective memory where an individual’s story merges, for a moment, with history at large.

Taking the context of Jean Paul Riopelle’s life as a point of departure, this exhibition looks at traveling as the means through which different contexts are connected and memories woven. To honor the centenary of Riopelle’s birth, the Musée d’art de Joliette, with the support of the Audain Foundation and the Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation, celebrates the legacy of one of the twentieth century’s most influential artists and reflects on how context shapes an artist’s practice and holds a mirror up to the present, introducing what modernist art history has overlooked for decades: the voices of female and nonbinary artists.

The participating contemporary artists – Jane Jin Kaisen, Linda Lamignan, Dala Nasser, Silvia Rosi, and Samara Sallam – were born, raised in, currently live in, or are emotionally attached to non-Western–influenced geographies. Through their work, traveling is presented at a distance from the Western European experience and given another meaning in relation to moving across contexts, labeled differently – mobility or migration – depending on who is moving.

Produced and circulated by the Musée d’art de Joliette.

This exhibition is presented as part of the Riopelle centennial celebrations thanks to the generous support of the Audain Foundation, in collaboration with the Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation.

Potential Board members can expect to commit around 5 hours of participation per month. This includes meetings, participating in committees, and promoting Plug In ICA in the wider community. Members are elected at the Annual General Meeting for a term of three years and may be re-elected up to four times, for a total of twelve years.

Interested applicants should have knowledge of the community and the field in which Plug In ICA operates as well as an openness to learn.

Doug Ashford is a teacher, artist, and writer. He has taught design sculpture, and theory at Cooper Union in New York since 1989. From 1982 to 1996, his primary artistic activity was as a member of Group Material, and since then he had gone on to paint, write, and produce other cross-disciplinary projects.
