Plug In announces appointment of
Heather Laser as Director of Development

Staff and Board at Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) are pleased to announce that Heather Laser has been hired for the position of Director of Development. Ms. Laser joined the organization on Monday, February, 28, 2011.  She was previously the Director of Fund Development for Manitoba Opera, a position she has held since 2007.

Ms. Laser will be taking over management of the Turn On Campaign from KCI Ketchum Canada who with the Plug In Campaign Cabinet, Board and staff have raised about $3 million of the $4 million goal.

Turn On Campaign revenues and government funding assisted Plug In ICA, in partnership with the University of Winnipeg, to build a new building at 460 Portage Avenue, The Buhler Centre. Plug In ICA occupies approximately 20 percent of the new building including four exhibition areas, an archives and library space, and on-site exhibit preparation and storage.

Ms. Laser will also be focusing on the development of new annual giving, sponsorship and special event programs.

“We are fortunate to have a person of Heather Laser’s depth and experience leading our development work,” said Anthony Kiendl, Director. “Heather knows the community and has worked in the arts for 15 years.  We have an exciting year ahead of us with an exhibition at Maison Rouge in Paris in June and the organization’s 40th Anniversary in 2012. The board, staff and I all look forward to having Heather as part of the team.”

Ms. Laser has a solid background in arts management. Previous to joining Plug In ICA, she worked as the Director of Development at Manitoba Opera for four years, Director of Development at Manitoba Theatre Centre for eight years, Special Events Manager for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Executive Director of the Association of Manitoba Museums, as well as having worked with the Winnipeg Film Group and Visual Arts Manitoba.

“I am thrilled to be joining the experienced and dedicated team at Plug In” commented Ms. Laser. “I look forward to contributing my experience to continue building support for Winnipeg’s own international centre for excellence in the visual arts.”
